Redwood, by Marie MacIntyre

If you could but speak to me,
What story you would tell,
Of long forgotten people,
And animals as well?

So mighty you stand,
To reach up above.
Are you conscious of God's spirit,
And his eternal love?

Many the nest,
You bore in your trees.
Those birds are gone,
But leave memories.

I wish you could tell,
The things you have seen,
Of man's fragile grasp,
Of God's greater scheme.
